The King’s School selects Somerville to Deploy Check Point Security Platform

Sydney, 17 December 2015 -The King’s School, one of the country’s premier Independent schools based in North Parramatta, New South Wales, has selected Somerville to deliver a Check Point security platform through to 2020.

The on-premise solution will provide a high availability gateway solution for both the school’s main campus in North Parramatta and also caters for the preparatory school, Tudor House in regional Moss Vale.

The decision to select Check Point follows several months of evaluation during which a range of solutions were piloted to meet the school’s security needs for 2016 and beyond.

Michael Eggenhuizen, The King’s School Director of ICT says, “The King’s Schools takes the security of our staff, students and school very seriously. We have committed considerable effort in ensuring we selected an industry leading solution to offer the best protection possible for our 1800 students and 400 teaching and administration staff across the organisation.”

“Check Point’s software blade technology will enable the school to implement a comprehensive Unified Threat Management (UTM) platform to deliver a broad suite of security technologies including Firewall, Advanced Networking, Identity Awareness, VPN, Application Firewall, URL Filtering, Anti-Malware, Anti-Virus, Anti-BOT, Data Loss Prevention, Anti-SPAM, Threat Emulation and Sandbox Technologies, all wrapped up with reporting and event management.” Says Eggenhuizen.

Somerville’s Managing Director, Craig Somerville says the contract continues his organisation’s long-standing relationship with The King’s School.

“Working with the school was actually the original driver for and our first paying customer on Somerville’s ISP and managed service offering branded as NetFilter, developed back in 1997 to provide a cloud filtering service to the education market,” says Somerville.

Augmenting NetFilter in 2010, Somerville won the rights to transition the VICTOR Network, a government funded collaboration network connecting 110 metropolitan, rural and regional Victorian Independent Schools to a commercially sustainable entity at the conclusion of its funding program. The integration of the VICTOR network into Somerville’s existing NetFilter network was the genesis for The Independent Schools Network, ISNet.

Today, ISNet provides a national secure network delivering connectivity and hybrid cloud services to a broad range of schools across the country.

Somerville adds” “With our experience in delivering cloud security solutions and understanding the importance of security in the emerging cloud world, we approached the industry’s leading vendors some two years ago to evaluate the available technologies and consolidate what was a disparate set of managed security services from five different vendors.

“One of the key features which impressed us about Check Point was its software blade technology which enables us to deliver a suite of security technologies in a multi-tenanted environment with the ability to virtualise the enforcement points across our network.”

Today, the Check Point platform allows Somerville to deliver a tailored solution to its customers based on their specific security needs. Somerville also offers a full suite of cloud security services encompassing five standard security suites that can be delivered as;

  • Traditional self-managed or fully managed on-premises solutions
  • Customer owned or fully managed cloud hosted solutions
  • Fully Virtualised cloud solution

“When these solutions are coupled with an Australian based 24 x 7 security desk for support, management, monitoring and event response, we provide a huge value proposition for our existing and prospective customers,” says Somerville.
